You do not need an active WoW subscription or game time for early name reservation. You do need a qualifying upgrade edition. Blizzard Support clarified this on 29 September, correcting an earlier GM answer quoted in the same thread. Official clarification

Check which upgrade you own before spending anything on game time. Then prepare the full names you want to reserve, with backups in case they are taken. The official announcements checked on 19 October still give no exact opening hour.

What is confirmed

Qualifying upgrades
Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection
Character limit

Name availability
First come, first served. Your preferred name is not guaranteed.

These are reservation benefits of the listed upgrades. Normal access when Forever launches is included with a WoW subscription or game time; buying an upgrade is optional for that access. The Epic Pack and Forever Collection include 30 days of game time starting at launch. Blizzard's upgrade details

If you have more than one WoW account, check which one received the upgrade. The reservation benefit applies only to the WoW account it was purchased for. Battle.net product details

Prepare full names, with alternatives you actually like

Forever uses a two-name system. The complete combination must be unique within your region. Someone else using your preferred first name does not rule out every version of it, and both parts remain subject to the naming rules. Blizzard's naming explanation

Keep the part you care about and vary the other. For example, Rook Copperwake and Rook Mossbraid use the same first name. Those examples have not been checked for availability.

Copy the worksheet into your own notes. Put the character whose name matters most first. It is worth choosing backups now, while you can think about them without checking whether somebody else has just taken your first choice.

What time does name reservation open?

The linked announcements give the reservation date window but no exact opening hour. A date alone does not establish a reliable local start time for each region, so there is no reservation countdown here.

Check Blizzard's official details again nearer the window. Keep launch time and reservation time separate: one does not establish the other. This guide will need updating when a precise reservation start is announced.

Before you close the tab

  • Confirm which qualifying upgrade you own.
  • Put your three characters in priority order.
  • Give every full name at least one backup you would happily keep.
  • Bookmark the official details for the opening-time update.

If your purchase involves a physical Collector's Edition or an unredeemed code, check its specific access instructions before buying anything else. This digital-upgrade checklist does not settle when that separate purchase grants access.

Keep your name list somewhere easy to find when the reservation window opens.
