A first-time Forever player asked how people knew about the quests leading up to a dungeon. At level 13, they asked where to go for a first run and were asked about earlier quests they hadn't heard of.

You don't need to turn the evening into a completion checklist. Decide whether this is a run for exploration, particular quests or simply time with friends. Then check the preparation that matters to that plan.

Write down what you're missing

For each quest you want to take, make a short note. Keep confirmed information separate from something a group member remembers from Classic.

If you can't establish a detail, mark it as unknown. Don't quietly turn a guess into a reason to send everyone across the map. Ask before adding a pickup or detour to the group's plan.

An optional way to inspect the chain

Completao!!: Forever is one addon that documents this task. I haven't tested it in-game. The steps below come from its author's instructions.

If something seems absent, inspect the filters. The author documents filtering by level and completion, and hiding quests for other classes, races or factions. An empty view isn't proof that the game has no relevant quest.

  1. Open its window with /completao, then choose a dungeon in the side panel.
  2. Select a quest to inspect its prerequisites, level requirement, starter and location.
  3. Follow the highlighted chain to see what comes before the selected quest.
  4. Use Show on map for the selected step. For an instance step, Show entrance points to the dungeon door instead.

Keep the addon separate from the answer

The author's description says Classic data comes from Questie and Forever additions from public quest databases. It also warns about incomplete coverage. Use it to identify what to check, not as a guarantee that every chain is correct.

The 20 October release is v1.4.2-forever for game version 1.60.1. That release listing doesn't establish compatibility with the launch client.

Don't spend the whole session trying to make a guide and your character agree. If the quest isn't available when you reach its starter, compare what the game actually shows with your note. You can leave that quest for another outing rather than making the rest of the group wait for an unresolved answer.

Agree on the run before travelling

A useful message is: "I'm checking quests for this run. I still need to confirm [quest or prerequisite]. Are we doing quest stops, or should I leave that for another time?"

Replace the bracketed detail before sending it. If it's your first run, say that too. The first dungeon group guide has examples for finding a group, agreeing on a meeting place and setting a finish time.

Your finished note should tell you what to check next and what the group has agreed to do. It doesn't have to account for every quest in the dungeon.
