A greyed-out icon can mean different things. The setting, supported abilities and beta bugs are worth checking separately.
That’s the problem behind a player’s question about enabling greyed-out cooldowns. The replies include Warlocks struggling to track particular spells. There isn’t a verified fix in that conversation that I’d tell everyone to follow.
This guide uses Blizzard’s beta documentation, checked on 24 October 2026. It isn’t a test of the launch client. Menu labels and tracking behaviour may change before release.
Where to switch it on
Blizzard’s 24 September development notes put the setting in Options, under Gameplay Enhancement. The Cooldown Manager was disabled by default.
Its purpose is to gather information from your buff and action bars into a customisable location. Start by checking that setting when you next have access to the game. An empty tracker and a tracker with one missing spell are different problems; make a note of which one you’re seeing before changing anything else.
Which classes and items were supported?
The early five-class list is outdated. Blizzard’s 8 October update added support for all classes, racial abilities and trinkets. The same update said more consumable support would follow, so don’t read “all classes” as “every item and spell works perfectly”.
Spell ranks changed too. The 1 October notes addressed duplicate entries on supported classes; the 15 October update said different ranks now behave as a single entry.
Those are documented beta changes, rather than a guarantee about every icon you’ll see at launch.
Why a missing icon may need more than a setting
Blizzard’s known-issues thread recorded a specific problem on 24 September: Banes and Curses could stop tracking correctly after dropping a target and selecting it again while the effect remained active.
That’s useful context for the Warlock reports. It doesn’t establish the cause of every greyed-out icon, or prove that the same bug will be present at launch. I haven’t verified a universal fix, and I wouldn’t treat a workaround from one beta build as one.
A useful check when you can log in again
If something still looks wrong, collect enough detail to separate a display problem from a setup question.
- Check whether the whole manager is absent or only one ability is missing.
- Note your class, the exact spell and rank, and the client build.
- Compare what the tracker shows with the ability on your action bar.
- For a target effect, note whether it disappears only after switching away and back.
- Record the steps that reproduce it before changing several settings at once.
You don’t need to rebuild your whole interface to investigate one missing timer. Check the built-in option first, then work out what information you still need.
