If floating numbers are getting in the way, the first thing to find is the menu for them. The documented path below comes from beta notes, not a current-client test.
The menu to check
Open Options > Gameplay > Combat > Scrolling Combat Text for Self, then look for Text on Me and Text on Target. That's the path in Blizzard's 16 October beta notes.
These are documented beta controls, not settings I've tested in game. The notes don't list every checkbox or establish that the launch interface will be identical. Keep a note of the settings you change so you can put them back.
What this doesn't settle
Finding those controls isn't the same as having a full MikScrollingBattleText replacement. In a 30 October request, one player asks for freely positioned messages, adjustable fonts and colours, and repeated hits combined into summaries. Blizzard's menu-path note doesn't establish that those options are available.
If one of those is what you're missing, check that specific feature before installing anything. This article doesn't establish which combat-text addons work with the current Forever client.
Be careful with old command fixes
The September discussion about missing combat text contains conflicting reports. Some players said console commands did nothing; others reported a temporary improvement or different results after changing addons. Those reports predate the documented October menu update. They don't establish a reliable fix for a current setup, so I haven't reproduced the commands here as instructions.
Start with the documented menu. If it doesn't cover the display change you need, check that exact capability rather than treating an old workaround as a current fix.
